Built originally for the Alumina Industry by Allan Taylor & Associates, in early 2016 Carnac has taken over the development, training and support of this iconic engineering design software package.
The Fluid Flow Design Software (FFDS V2.50) package was written to provide engineers working in and across the mining and mineral processing industries with a database of equipment and fluids, a comprehensive range of calculation techniques and a minimum documentation standard for fluid flow calculations.
The software comes in three versions:
Ver 2.50I Incompressible fluids, single branch flow, replaces FFDS 1.7
Ver 2.50N In/compressible fluids, network flow, 240 equipment items
Ver 2.50C Compressible, two phase and flashing fluids, single branch flow
The software will analyse process piping systems including tanks, pipes and fittings, reducers and expanders, centrifugal and positive displacement pumps, control valves, orifice plates and heat exchangers. New items can be added to the pipe, fittings and pump databases.
Physical property databases for steam, gas, liquid, solid, mixture, process liquor and rheology are available from within FFDS and fluid mixtures may be created using these components. New items can be added to the fluid databases.
Fluid properties including mass flow, concentration, temperature and pressure may be changed at any node allowing for analysis of pipe runs with injection or bleed flows and equipment such as thickeners, flash tanks or heat exchangers.
Friction loss calculation techniques are provided for a wide range of fluids including Newtonian, non-Newtonian, settling slurries, compressible fluids and water or liquor based two-phase flashing liquids.
