Booster Pump Mechanical Seals

Project Value | $3.5m

Solution Provided | Detailed Engineering Investigation

Disciplines | Mechanical

The primary cause of the increase pump failures throughout 2015, have been attributed to a mechanical seal failure, where failures have increased from best case operation life of approximately 15 months to a reduced operation life of 2-3 weeks. Carnac was commissioned to provide professional engineering services to identify the root cause of failure of the booster pump mechanical seals and provide recommendations to address the failures. The resulting failure rate after the client implemented Carnac's recommendations has more than halved, to a mean-time-to-failure of 1-6 months. While consulting fees for this work was close to $10k, the savings resulting from this analysis saved the client close to $250k in maintenance costs and over $3m in production losses.
